Cultural Department
In its glories journey of over five decades the club has been able to acquire great reputation in the area of cultural activities in South Kolkata and in the district of Souty 24 Parganas. It celebrates all festivals & functions from Rabindra – Nazrul Jayanti to even pure Classical Program with unique initiatives.
The activities of the Cultural Department are:
- Offering opportunities to youngsters to develop and expose theit talents by organizing music, dance, recitation, debate, quiz and sit-and-draw programs.
- Presenting and felicitating celebrities and performers of State and National repute from different fields such as Mr. Salim Durani, Jyotirmoyee Sikdar, Smt. Bula Choudhury, Sri Sambaran Banerjee and others to motivate and inspire the next generation to achieve.
- Organizing Annual Cultural Program presenting classical, folk and modern songs, dance, stage animation and drama programs by artists of National repute and high-calibre for entertainment and cultural upbringing of the local inhabitants.
Indian Classical Programs organized by the Samity have been graced by the performances of maestros and celebrities like Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt. Shibkumar Sharma, Pt. V.G. Jog, Dr. Chitresh Das, Dona Ganguly, Begum Parveen Sultana, Ustad Ashis Khan, Pt. Tanmoy Bose, Pt. Bikram Ghosh, Smt. Sutapa Duttagupta and others. Folk-music of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, modern music (particularly Bengali) of performers like Smt. Arati Mukherjee, Smt. Lopamudra Mitra, Sri Indranil Sen, Smt. Indrani Sen, Sri Srikanta Acharya, Cactus, Bhumi, drama performrnces of groups led by Smt. Usha Ganguly, Sri Manoj Mitra, Sri Meghnad Bhattacharya and stage-animation by Sri Kalyan Sen Barat have added colours to our different Annual Cultural Programs.
- Sharadotsab (Autumn Festival) is celebrated every year with great pomp and show by organizing Durgapuja which is participated by all the members and local inhabitants bringing desired unity and harmony among all the members and residents irrespective of any religious and communal bar.
Shyama Puja and Saraswati Puja are also a part of the Festival List of the Society which are celebrated too with lot of zeal and enthusiasm
